The first Apollo Road bed design became a functional prototype.
Rising to an ultra low 16" above ground, this bed was designed for a mattress or synthetic foam of less than eight inches. The "ToLo" bed is inspired by Eastern practices of sleeping on the ground or close to it.
This functional unit was built for two purposes: to evaluate the ultra low sleeping height and to provide a real world training exercise in TIG welding. Apollo Road founder had just begun TIG welding and hot roll steel provided a unique challenge.
Each joint is essentially a practice bead that bears no resemblance to the current welding standards of Apollo Road products - but it serves as that nagging, glaring reminder of the beginner's mind.
Three inch hot roll tubular steel, Walnut MDF panel. Twin bed rails support wood slats for mattress.
